It’s no surprise that the next-generation Note device (possibly named the Galaxy Note 4, if the recent nomenclature is correct) will arrive with a Galaxy Gear smartwatch. Samsung placed the Galaxy Gear 1 alongside of the Note 3 when it unveiled both devices last September (some five months ago). What is a surprise, however, is that Samsung is interested in releasing a Galaxy S5 Gear smartwatch at its Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014 presentation on Monday evening.
When Samsung announced the arrival of the Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy Gear smartwatch last Fall, some Galaxy S users were upset with the company because of the inherent bias behind a smartwatch release with the company’s niche phablet device created for business professionals. Samsung may want to appease its largest consumer base of Galaxy S users, and releasing a Galaxy S5 Gear smartwatch just may help in this department.
We do not know the specs of the device, but if the Galaxy Gear 1 can provide anything, we know that the device will likely have a 1.6-inch super AMOLED display, a side camera, and connect to the Galaxy S5 via Bluetooth. If the latest waterproofing rumor means anything, we could very well see more attention paid to waterproofing the Galaxy S5 Gear than the company’s first-generation smartwatch.
We also know that Samsung may price the Galaxy S5 cheaper than previous models, so it could be the case that Samsung’s Galaxy S5 Gear may be a little more affordable than the Note 4 Galaxy Gear. We’ll have to wait and see on this one.
Alongside of the Galaxy S5 Gear smartwatch, Samsung intends to release other fitness bands (termed “wearables”) at its Unpacked 5 Event, so stay tuned to Geeknaut for more details as the big day arrives.
